There are applications for the mount where the suction cup is not useful or not optimal.

In our LSA we mounted it high forward below the skylight (suction cup facing upward.) When the sun beat down on the plate the suction cup would periodically come loose in flight. Ifly would`ve dropped to the floor if we didn`t have a short safety cord on it.

We resolved our issue by drilling two small holes through the base and bolting it in place. (We might`ve been able to kludge together some sort of mounting screwdown clips..... but didn`t thing of that until later.)

But of course that has made the suction mount inoperative so if we ever took the mount out or wanted to position it elsewhere the suction wouldn`t work. Not a crisis, but ---

--- if the kit came with a plastic or metal flange or two clips .... some way to screw the base down (or up) without destroying the suction, that would a cheap, easy, and useful to some buyers, mod. Even better if you offered an alternative screwdown base for the mount. That way could use the screwdown base in the plane and the suction base in the car.

I can't tell you how many times my iFly suction cup has come lose from my car windshield. It falls and I try to catch it with success most of the time, then I change my pants LOL. I wonder if the moment is too long for the small cup and weight of the iFly?. I wonder if there is a gel or grease that would help with adherence?

I use a yoke mount in the plane, can't be playing catch while flying.

Something that works well is to lightly moisten the suction cup or window. I've stuck the suction mount onto glass and it's held solid with weight on it. Make sure the glass is cleaned with a cleaner and clean the rubber cup. If it still won't hold for the better part of a day, I think you may be experiencing some small air leak.

Look at the edge of the rubber suction cup and see if you have any abnormalities like a warp in the rubber. Pressure changes and moisture changes can also affect this.

That's what I did. I sprayed a squirt or two of water on the suction cup on the plexi. It would hold for a few days to a week or more. I wanted a more reliable mount, just in case.

Recently, an idea from David in Pictures and Feedback, I mounted the suction mount in a 3 1/8 empty hole with a bolt by removing the cup. There's enough room for a bolt to feed through hole in the cup.
