Good to know. I think several days to over a week on Plexi is acceptable and typical. For a longer mounting scenario, I'd looking to a more semi-permanent option like what David suggested. There are also options like the universal mount from out online store. The Suction mount is very flexible, so there is even a possibility to custom make a mount using parts from the suction mount. Just a thought.

I don't have the mount in front of me, it's in the plane. Seems like the articulating mount that attaches to the iFly is like the mount for the spud mount for the NFlightCamera. Maybe Shane or Walter could confirm.

NFlightCam has a video to attach using the spud mount. Look at the video below the picture of mount.

I faced a similar problem keeping a suction cup attached to the transom of a small boat when I attached a fishfinder's transponder. It kept coming loose due to small nicks in the painted aluminum.

I successfully cured the problem by smearing a small amount dielectric sealant for high voltage locations like modern cars' spark plugs. This stuff is thick, gooey, and apparently water resistant. ALSO, it does NOT cause rubber to deteriorate!!! Be sure to check the label of any of this stuff that you buy to verify that it is safe for the surface you are attaching to. With Plexi, you may have to contact the "grease" manufacturer.

This stuff causes suction cups to cling like they are bolted on!!

Jim,

Good tip. I was thinking something like a thin thin layer petroleum jelly might work. Agree, you'd need to contact the manufacturer if applying to plexi or paint, I'd hate for it to discolor, damage or stain it. I can't see it affecting Glass though. Thanks for the great information.

David,

I've seen he NFlightCam and the Spud or mounting disk area is smaller that what the iFly uses. I could easily see making the same thing with a Countersink Machine thread screw and then a few larger and smaller washers. Basically put a few smaller washer closest to the plane or surface, then match (I'd go a fraction larger) to the larger washer to the toothed disk that the current suction mount rotates on. This would replicate a floating disk to mount the top portion of the Suction Mount to. Just an idea for a few dollars at the local hardware store. I'd even you stainless steel or aluminum. Hope this helps.
