I also believe that this is an important safety feature that's missing.  I disagree that having a glide ring would not be helpful information in an actual emergency -- I believe that it would be helpful, or at the least, it wouldn't hurt.  I even more strongly believe that having a glide ring while in normal flight would be most helpful.  I want to know as I'm flying along, especially in mountainous terrain, what my options are and if I don't have any, how far over do I have to move to have one.  (That's why I've also requested a way to show glide distance to either side of a planned route, so a person can plan a route [both the path & altitude] with emergencies in mind.)

I'm always thinking about where I'm going to land in an emergency, as we all should.  Most times,IMO, straight lines are for fools.

AnyWhere Map which was a similiar device as the IFly had glide rings in their 1998 version.

Yeah, it’s not about using it during an emergency. It’s about maintaining SA  about your options while in cruise in the event of an engine failure. I’ve been there and done that and am now much more aware of my route and may alter it if necessary. Bottom line is that iFly’s competitors have it and it seems like a very simple option.

I agree it would/will be good to have. I'm not sure how simple it is. You have to take into account the aircraft best glide speed, altitude, wind direction and velocity at each altitude, and each airport elevation. Also, if done properly, the glide speed would be different depending on wind. For example, if best glide speed is 70 knots and you have a 70 knot headwind, you might want to lower the nose to a faster glide speed if the airport is straight ahead. I'm sure Brian can figure it out, but it seems very complex to me.
