I can see how this is a low priority, but I can also see a great benefit in being able to test / experiment all the features of the iFly. I don't have an autopilot so testing in the air is less practical. Running through the paces with a sim would be great!

Dave,

Yep, I can see how it would make testing much easier. I can even see integration with the industry Simulators like the Redbird and iFly Trailers simulators among others is a Marketing opportunity to gain branding and awareness. It would also possibly allow or create a segment into Panel Installs for various solutions. Great idea for down the road, I'll definitely keep this on the Wishlist.

Being the Sales and Marketing guy, I'm all about branding and build the iFly GPS name and exploring new opportunities. Great feedback. I've actually spoken with a gentleman that has the Redbird Simulators and am very familiar with MS Flight Sim. Even have my stick and pedals somewhere. :-)

If you want to align with one of the desktop flight simulators, I'd suggest X-Plane. MS Flight Sim is no longer being supported whereas X-Plane is alive and well. As I mentioned earlier, they are now integrated with Foreflight as well.

FWIW:

One vote from me.

But not nearly as high priority as, for example, my request that terrain altitude color flashing be more user adjustable.

Features that keep us safe in the air should IMO take priority over interesting/fun things to do on the grounds.

Alright,I downloaded x-Plane so I could test this idea. With version 7.5, which is still in beta (but VERY close to release), this works. First start x-Plane and configure it to pump NMEA data. Then connect your iFly to your computer via the serial port. (if you're connecting two female cables you'll need a null-modem adapter to do this). After a few seconds, voila, you're iFly is tracking your x-Plane flight.

Things to note: If x-Plane is not pumping NMEA data the iFly will treat the serial cable as an NMEA output, not an input, and it will start it's own pump. This is why you need to get x-Plane started first.

I assume this will work with MS as well, but I didn't test that.

Happy flying,

Walter

P.S.: ComputerDoc, with 7.5 you also have the option to disable the terrain flashing.
