While flying IFR today, I had several route changes along the way. I found myself wishing for the ability to quickly insert my current position into the flight plan, so that (a) the magenta line would be in the right place for me to follow to my next route waypoint, and (b) at the end of the flight, I would have my as-directed route (in my flight plan) as well as my as-flown route (in the GPS log file).

Could you add a button on the "Add Waypoint" screen (the one with the keyboard) to "Add Current Position" or something like that?

I know I can rubber-band my path, too, but in IFR with turbulence that might be problematic. If I've got to be in the Flight Plan page to punch in other changes to my route, then having a simple button there seems to make sense to me. Thanks!

Here is what works for me. From the flight plan page I click the 'direct to' button on the waypoint I want to go to. The iFly immediatly inserts a current position waypoint (lat/long) into the flight plan and redraws the magenta line from my current position to the waypoint that I selected direct to.

Cobra,

Alasdair is right on the money. If you touch Flight Plan, then "Direct-To" next to your next waypoint (it will be the first direct-to), the iFly will create a waypoint at your location, effectively building an actual pan. This re-centers your flight line to your current position and adjust all the leg and cumulative flight data. The cool thing is that it leaves your departure in the plan (something other GPS units do not do - they remove everything prior the "Direct-To"). Hope this helps.

Ah! I was thinking that feature would be convenient in the Flight Plan page while I'm punching in the other deviations to my plan, but I suppose I can start with that action and then go to the Flight Plan page.

Many thanks for the pointer!
