Well - shame on me. Further reading shows you release 9.8 3 days ago. I'm looking forward to trying it. Thanks for the support.

Is 9.8 really released? It hasn't reached my iPhone yet.

Which reminds me: How do we know that a new update is ready for the hardware iFly without driving to the airport and turning it on? That's probably a stupid question, but I really don't know the answer.

Don - I'd suggest making a backup copy of the SD card and bringing it home with you. That way you can update it at home via iFly Connect (which will alert you to software upgrades) as well as ensure you have the latest charts, TFR's, etc before you head to the airport. A bonus with this method is the fact that if the upgrade has issues, you also have in the plane the previous SD card that is known to be good. With each update, the previous card becomes the backup. The only catch with this method is that if you happen to use the "Streets" program, you'll need to be sure to use the original SD card while driving since Streets will not run from an SD card other than the original.

Great idea! Thanks, Jeff. I should have thought it it long ago. There's wi-fi at my airport--but only outside the steel hangars--which I use sometimes for upgrades. But that's obviously not a good solution. Yours is!

Yes, it's released, but only for the hardware iFly. We know this because AP posted a message announcing the release right here on the General Discussion forum, cryptically titled "9.8 Release". :-)
