Hi Mike,

You wrote...

I had (as I bet more than one member here has) an experience that dramatically reminded me that while one GPS may be enough, having a backup is way better:

Flying VFR above 10,00 feet of thick smoke my 720 failed. Can't tell you how totally happy I was that iFly was running on my iPad Mini! I was in an area such that even if I had dropped down into the smoke for a better ground view the terrain was sorely lacking in features to identify location or even fix on something to hold steady heading on....and lacking any diversion airports of even viable off-field landing options. Probably would have be able to find my way, but would have been very tense.

Hope you got iFly running on your iPad.

Well, truth be told, while I had only my 740 running and the iPad Mini4 running the iFly software, I had my old Lowrance 1000, and Lowrance 600c in the back seat, my iPhone that could have been put in automobile tracking mode (since iFly won't run on it because I don't have enough memory left), my wife's Samsung phone that I could have similarly used, an outdated, but still reasonably useful Sectional Atlas, and I was on flight following all the way from Chicago to Florida.  All this in addition to the two VOR's I could have used.  I usually mount the 1000 on the other yoke, but it was severe clear this trip and I just forgot.  I'll likely make more of an effort to make sure I set it up next long trip I go on.
