Walter,

My IFLY is locked up. I had a previous IFLY which I had dropped which put a slight dent in the screen and it would not respond to touch. I purchased a replacement from you after testing at your office.

The new one has worked perfectly since March when I was at your office. I am currently in the middle of a return cross country trip to Colorado from Oklahoma. (Currently on the ground in Kansas waiting for 45 Kt winds to abate).

I was about 25 minutes into my flight yesterday and the IFLY locked up. (for what it is worth I had just passed over a micro wave antenna). There have been no previous problems with this unit.

I unplugged and tryed to reboot. I count not get past the "Warnings" screen and the IFLY would not respond to touch. I tryed several times to no avail. I was in turbulence the entire flight therefore it was difficult to do any thing else but power off and repower. I then reverted to paper charts in conjunction with my Garmain for navigation.

This morning in the hotel I have tried numerous times to get the IFLY working.

1. I down loaded a chart update and the IFLY worked but it only would show the last position and I could not move the chart.

2. I then unplugged and tried a new boot. Again the lockup at the "Warnings" screen.

3. I tried other updates to no avail.

4. I then read this thread and tried the remote. The IFly did activate but with limited success. It responded only to a few of the remote commands.

5. I am not using a screen protector.

I will give the office a call Tuesday AM, if I am still not flying.

I hope this is enough initial info to think about trouble shooting.

The unit has not been dropped as had the previous IFly. This one has no marks on the screen. The one time it did reboot the position of the plane was at the last point on the sectional where the lockup occured and the chart could not be moved from that spot.

Thanks Jerry Bradley

Walter,

I am now able to get the IFLY on but only with the remote. I managed to get a direct course set with the pan feature. I can not get the remote to move on the keyboard or calibration screen. Unit locks there even with the remote. If I get in the air tomorrow, I will see if the IFLY will track.

Jerry

When you say you cannot get the touchscreen to respond, how are you touching it? I have found that using the pad of my finger ("poking") is fairly unreliable. Instead, I try to use a fingernail, or if I have a pen in my hand I'll use the capped end as a stylus. That works much better for me.

On a short cross-country this weekend, my iFly locked up several times while trying to drag the sectional. Rebooting cures the problem, but it seems like it keeps cropping up. My wife (ie: navigator) is starting to come up with a few other terms for the unit, none of which make any mention of the term GPS. When it's working, it's great. It just makes her a little reluctant to change to other screens or look up airport data for fear it will lock up when she tries to return to the sectional screen. I've got a screen protector on it and think i'll take it off to see if that helps. I'm just not sure why the protector would be an issue.
