Walter,
I forgot to tell you that I was using the sectional chart. I have not flown again since I had the problem so I don't know if it is still a problem.
Thanks
Ken

During additional ground tests, I have managed to *constently* get the iFLY to lockup. It is a simple matter to cause a lockup by turning on the unit and THEN hitting the starter! It is a voltage drop, or something similar that simply takes the iFly hardware beyond its capabilities, and Windows freezes. My iFLY is hardwired to the avionics buss - I do not have the option of unplugging it. I submit that this is not anything related to iFly software - it is a hardware issue, and Walter doesn't need to get hammered on this one.

Like any other avionics, the iFly will get upset if the supply voltage goes crazy, as in an engine start. I'm mitigating everything via a simple modification to my checklist - Once the engine is running, turn on the avionics master, pretty standard stuff, and it solves the problem.

I note that my Garmin doesn't have this problem, simply because it has an internal battery pack. Obviously, a very simple solution for the iFly is to add a small LiPo (or similar) battery pack in-line with the avionics buss. I might do this, but for now just a simple procedural change in the start-up list solves the problem.

Dave, thanks for figuring this out. We'll log this piece of information away for future reference.

I now plug in the I Fly after the plane is started. I flew on a cross country trip for 1 hour using the sectional chart through several waypoints with no problems. On the reverse flight I was off course about 20 miles and the I Fly locked up about 30 minutes into the flight. I had to leave it unplugged for about 4 minutes before it would work then it was OK for the rest of the flight. I did try after being unplugged for about 1 minute but it was still locked up.

Ken, what did the unit display when you plugged it back in after 1 minute?

Thanks,

Walter
