Just for info, the TransModSPE is a small box that clamps to the transponder coax cable, and is designed to act as an antenna to collect the very low level of RF energy that is leaked by the coax to be able to read the codes (squawk and altitude) the mode C transponder is transmitting. It does not cut into or change the properties of the coax cable. It has been working very well in my installation with a 15' USB cable between the TransMod and the ADS600-B in my Cessna 182 (Bill initially recommended not going over 10', but agreed 15' should work fine).

An update on my installation:

After the intial installation, my Sandia 165R transponder seemed to quit working! ATC was not getting a squawk - the ADS600-EXP seemed to be fine - I was getting GPS positioning to my iFly 740 along with weather and traffic. I sent the transponder in to Sandia and they said it was OK! However, while they had it, they did a revision/upgrade and then sent it back - all for free! Great customer service experience with Barry LeBlanc at Sandia.

I was suspicious of my transponder antenna cable as I had to manipulate it a lot since I mounted the ADS600-EXP below my transponder and had to remove/reinstall the transponder several times, each time flexing the antenna cable near the SMA connector. So, when I got the 165R back from Sandia, I reinstalled it along with a new transponder antenna cable. I clipped the TransMonSPE on the antenna cable about a foot from the transponder.

Everything is working perfectly now! ATC says the transponder is spot-on and the iFly is receiving GPS position, traffic and weather from the ADS600-EXP.

As far as configuration, I used the UAT Console program 5.3.1 and inputted my tail number and checked "Autostealth" mode, selected "TransMonSPE squawk and alt" for the input, and "EFIS" (which lists the iFly) for the display and left the baud rate at 115K.

Bill Moffett at NavWorx and Shane at Adventure Pilot also provided excellent support and I can't say enough how helpful they all were!

Sent an email to the FAA "9-AWA-AFS-300-ADSB-AvionicsCheck@faa.gov" requesting a system check and received an "ADS-B Aircraft Operation Compliance Report" with pages of incomprehensible data! However, some helpful soul at the FAA added the comment, "everything looks good!" So, I guess my NavWorx ADS600-EXP installation was successful!

John, glad to hear your EXP is working well ----- I have mine on order and will be hooking it to my Garmin 327 TXP, using my Dynon D10A for the encoder. I will use my 740 and iPad for the display in my RV-6A.

A couple of my hangar neighbors have Navworx units (600B and EXP) and have received good reports from the FAA.

I currently have the SkyguardTWX unit, and it is working very well for traffic and weather. However, I did want the "2020 compliant" unit in my airplane.

Ron

EDIT --- UPDATE

I should report that all is well! I finished my installation a couple of months ago. Everything is working perfectly and I get traffic and weather on my 740s and my iPad. I queried the FAA a couple of weeks ago and they reported that the system was totally compliant.
