Hi Sam, Great question. The iPad app has pretty much all the same features as the iFly 740. But there are some additional pros to using the 740: The super-bright screen would be the top of the list, this is especially important if you are in a bright cockpit. And with the 740 you won't need to worry about an OS update "breaking" your ability to navigate (this happened last year when Apple accidentally broke all bluetooth GPS interfaces with one of their releases). And the internal GPS in a 740 is awesome, no need for an external receiver. And you can export NMEA data to an autopilot or other device with a 740. Finally, the iPad tends to turn itself off if it gets hot...the iFly 740 won't have that problem.
There are of course pros to the iPad approach too: The big screen is really nice if you have room for it. And it's light, has a good battery, and can be used for lots of other applications.
