That does sound pretty fun (the PAR). Have not done one since I was in the military and was "in the soup" over East Anglia in the United Kingdom on a very typical foggy British evening!
I agree this COULD work in a pinch - have tried it enough to have confidence in it now. While I would NEVER deliberately put myself in that position, I know it can work.
