Regarding checklists: they're not just for the preflight, they also should be used in flight (e.g. landing or emergencies [circumstances permitting]).  That was one of Teague's points -- it would be best if the pilot wasn't flipping between apps while in flight.  Like you, I would prioritize W&B as a low(er) priority.  But that's because, and maybe it's the same for you, that I would have a hard time taking my Cherokee 180 outside the envelope.  But not everyone, especially people flying Light Sport Aircraft, has such a wide and tall envelope.

My overall point was that W&B and checklists both are a feature-fit for this product.  But I wasn't arguing that they're a high priority.

A quick recap:

I started the thread by noting that iFly has recently made some military sales.  I fly with the Coast Guard Auxiliary and had to download another product (FlightPlan GO) to obtain (1) search patterns and (2) W&B with the ability to email the completed work sheet.  Perhaps these would be good additions if iFly wants to pursue more military sales.

We then had some interesting discussions of the Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) and its contents.  I see the EFB as an integrated suite of products (i.e., like Microsoft Office). Of course, there needs to be lots of thought about what the suite contains. My feeling is that W&B is a core part of flight planning and must be made available to the pilot.  We all have stories of someone taking off out of balance and crashing or going off the end of a hot and high airport.

Yes, you can download several W&B apps, but they don't run on the iFly 7XX platform, so this is driving customers away from iFly hardware.  Even worse, someone may download a competitor's product as I did with FlightPlan Go, a Garmin company.  In any case, I sometimes fly in the Arizona mountains and I need W&B from someone.

Good on you for reminding us that it's your thread and you do see an immediate need for W&B.  I also forget sometimes, and maybe others do too, that a good portion (majority?) of the iFly users are running on the iFly hardware and not Android/Apple/PC hardware where we have the ability to run other apps.  That's a very salient point for this discussion.

Great conversation guys, I appreciate the feedback please know you are well heard.  We recently hired another brilliant programmer, trying to pick up our dev pace.

Thanks!

I too fly for the Coast Guard Auxiliary and would LOVE to use my ifly gps for search patterns.  It seems that Garmin is the other option and they have it in Garmin Pilot but I would much prefer to stay with my ifly set up.  Please add this function!
