Dave, I agree it provides protection. I also found the company easy to work with, and their product well documented and easy to install.

7-4-10, Nu Shield didn't work for me. Too thick, pink tinge, slides off of the screen. dp

7-4-10, Re, screen protector, I ordered a .006 thin, self-clinging screen protector "film", hi-contrast, crystal clear-glossy, from "photodon.com", 1-847-377-1185; pn MXA-2095-02; $13.70/2ea; s&h $7.51 prority mail. Said to reduce glare by 25%-sharp, clear and #-1 rated by "gotabemobile" a small computer blog/website that has on-line moble computer demo's. Their "MXT" matte anti-glare for touchscreens also .006 thin for $10.95/2ea but has some visual noise/pixeling. dp

My iFly started out working great. Then lately my wife, who is the designated navigator, has been having issues with the screen locking up or not responding to any input. After reading this thread, I realized that not too long after buying the unit, I installed a screen protector . I plan on playing around with the iFly at home and then removing the protector to see if there's a difference. Sounds like the protector could be the issue here. The protector is from Nu Shield.

Scott,

Well, it's gone from bad to worse. I was playing around with it at home with the screen protector on and at froze up a couple of times. I took the protector off to try it again and while in the Vector mode, it froze up again. When I restarted it, I couldn't get beyond the warning screen. I unpowered it several times and tried to restart, but it froze on the warning screen each time. I downloaded some chart updates (I already had the 4.09 update uploaded) and tried to update the unit. If I started it with the memory stick installed, it got to the screen that said it detected an update and asked if I wanted to upload it. I hit yes, it made a little noise and then just sat there. I tried it several times - no luck. Seems the problem goes beyond the screen protector. What would be my next move?
