Many software vendors publish a roadmap with anticipated versions that a feature will appear in and anticipated release dates for those versions. This helps their customers know what's coming down the road.

It also helps the competition know what's coming down the road.

Having said that, I've often thought that for minor imminent features. or features that have been asked for/discussed here in the forum, a webpage of planned features might help reduce duplicate requests here.

OTOH, after seeing how, in the Stratux forum, a lot of people don't bother reading FAQ's or perform searches before posting, maybe a webpage is a waste of the webmaster's time.

If I was AP, I would only pre-announce enhancements if I wanted to for competitive and marketing reasons. Maybe I'm about to implement split screen or "on-the-fly" screen rotatation and I want my customers and potential customers to know it's coming soon. Otherwise, I would not publish a list of things we may or may not be working on.

I couldn't find it in a search, but this has been asked before and Walter responded that they feel it's best to limit public insight into priorities and schedules for future features due to marketplace competitive reasons.

I did competetive analysis at a previous company, and for someone who is good, it doesn't take long to scan a few forums and predict where a company may be going. A published (or even invitation only) roadmap makes things easier for customers and reduces some forum clutter.

Not all items need to be on a roadmap. We always had two versions available, public and private. Each containing what information we actually wanted publicly available.

Those who wont search, wont do it whether a roadmap is available or not.

Anyways, was just a thought. Certainly wont change my opinion of the company or product :)
