Perhaps this issue will be addressed in V9, but I bring it up today in case it's not.

There was a faux Presidential type TFR over Phoenix today, painting the whole Class B chart red. (That's not the issue I'm writing about. But it is odd that there's a TFR painted that the FAA doesn't know about.)

Then the cloud ceilings were too low for Phx to give us clearance thru the Class B. So we had to circumnavigate the Class B.

Fine. I expanded the Vertical Profile to help us scoot around the upside down wedding cake. But what's this? The entire VP was painted red with the TFR! (Surf to 17,999'.) There wasn't any demarcation of Class B floors and tops.

So, okay, I went into the SUA settings and turned off ("hid") the TFR coloring.

That turned off the red on the chart. But hiding the TFR SUA didn't work on the VP. It was still all red. (I took a screen shot if you need to see it.)

Shouldn't the SUA warnings in the VP follow the user settings for the chart? Or, if not, shouldn't there be a separate control for the VP SUA warnings?

Mike,

I don't know why the feed included that TFR. This data comes directly from the FAA in near real time, it's possible someone just fat fingered that information into the system. This has been rare in the last couple of years, but we have heard of bad data before.

As you discovered, the Vertical Profile shows all the airspaces. But I think it's reasonable to have this configurable. We'll get this on the list.

Thanks,

Walter

I was surprised that a TFR showed up that I didn't know about while I was flying through it. I was hoping Luke's F16's wouldn't show up or get the call from tower to 'prepare to write a telephone number down'. I was hoping it was just a fluke and I forgot to trouble shoot the problem today.

David,

The Vertical Profile instrument can be added to the Basic Instrument group using the Instrument Layouts under the Setup menu. You can also simply change the Instrument Group to a default group including Extended or HSI, they should have the VP shown. If not they may have been modified so simply add it using the above details. Hope this helps.
