Yesterday I took off for a VFR flight for some mountain sightseeing. I took a quick look at my Iphone before loading up and noticed the large red circle around Dobbins AFB due to the POTUS being in town.

My airport is 2 miles north of the area so I planned my departure and arrival accordingly.

After I was in the air, I noticed the the TFR was not displayed on my panel mounted 740s. Either of them. I verified that the ADS-B was working, traffic and weather were displaying normally.

After I returned home I got to thinking about the situation and the possible problems that it can cause. I quick call to the Adventure pilot offices made me aware that while ADS-B has the ability to broadcast TFR information, it is not always done.

Being somewhat skeptical, I did some research on the web... it is full of stories of people violating airspace that was not displayed on their electronic devices. The FAA has stated that the only "official" information will come from a pilot briefing.

WATCH OUT ! there many traps out there.

Today when we were going to from from Thermal KTRM to French Valley F70 for lunch, one of the passengers had the FlyQ app on his phone, and it showed a red circle around F70.  The IFly 740 with Stratux ADSB did not show the TFR. Obviously some vendors are getting different information.

I was really hoping that I could depend on the 740 in the cockpit...It appears as if I will need to check the version on the phone before departure.

From what I have read on other forums, Do not depend on any ADSB information as being the "gospel"

This is not really news.  ADSB-in has never been advertised as a replacement for pre-flight briefings, either by the FAA or by EFB vendors.  It's always been advertised as supplemental, not authoritative.  Essentially:  "If it works, great.  If it doesn't, too bad."

Actually, the FAA ADS-B website says "Transmits notices of important flight information, such as temporary flight restrictions or closed runways"
