Hello iFly Community!  I use iFly for my weekly commutes to work and am so lost without it!  I run the app on a Samsung Galaxy Tab A and store the downloads for the app on a 16 GB micro sd card.  The first one lasted several months.  Upon take off one day, the screen turned white and was unusable for the rest of the flight.  I later found that the tablet was not recognizing the sd card.  The Sandisk card was removed and put in my laptop.  The files were on it but not reachable.  It said the sd card was locked read only but the files were unreadable.  I could not format the card so tried various downloads to fix it but was unsuccessful.  Bought a new card (PNY 16 GB).  Downloaded the iFly data files to the card.  Worked for 2 commutes and now it is corrupted.  Took it to the local computer shop and they found the same issue as before and were unable to format the card.  Any ideas of what may be going on or is it time to invest in a new tablet?  Thanks in advance for any help.

Perhaps.  However, if you get it working again, maybe you can clone the SD card and keep the backup in your flight bag.

Sam, thank you for posting, and sorry for your issues here.  Since this is a relatively unheard of issue, it leads us to conclude that it's device-specific.  Somehow, your device is toasting your SD Cards.   There is nothing normal that an application can do to make the SD Card go bad like that -- so I'm guessing it's a device failure.  Maybe it's frying some transistors, and from there degrades immediately to being unusable.   Just a wild guess at the details, but it's probably something like that.

My best guess at a fix is to get a new device.  That should do it.   Diagnosing/repairing devices is usually not feasible nor cost effective; and so I recommend getting a new one.

I use aTAB A and have not had that issue. I do notice that after a flight with the tablet in my cockpit that when I get ready to depart the tablet has shut down because it got too hot.

Make sure your tablet is out of the sun or kept next to an air vent.

Sam,

You say it's a micro SD card.  So it is the little 1/2" size?  Do you have that mounted in an adapter that plugs into the Samsungs full size SD port?  Or does the Samsung take that micro SD directly?

Just curious because I've learned not to trust those adapters.
