I just saw your other post now, where you uploaded an ADSB to here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1f_O_R5NHe9Hwv76cGcFqXUvkmP7w-Iv3/view?usp=sharing

For the aircraft "5199B" which was in the pattern with you, was it showing up in another EFB while not showing in iFly GPS?

I have requested permission to read this upload.

I did authorize you Brian, but that seems not to have worked. Google Drive can be a total PITA sometimes. I zipped both files, but, alas, you size limit for uploads (which is far too low) won't accept the 8-9Mb zipped file. You can get this file (no authorization required!) at:

https://www.citruskiwi.com/drive-download-20200817T134903Z-001.zip

It;s definitely not a ghosting issue as I have been in the pattern with it, and also had them departing and re-entering the pattern with no target shown. Unfortunately, during these 2 logs, I have have no other EFB in the cockpit. However, when I originally discovered the issue, it was because I had my CPL student's Foreflight (connected to my Stratux) reporting the target.

And the missing plane is different on this tablet to the missing plane on my previous, identical tablet.

Ian, I have reviewed the ADSB logs, and in my test, saw N5199B the whole time.   In fact, it usually showed up twice (two copies).   This was the only aircraft that showed up twice.  Perhaps it has special equipment for ADS-B Out, and so we're getting position from both the plane and the tower?  (and they are skewed)

On 7/27, N5199B stayed around GYR the whole time, in pattern.

On 8/3, N5199B took off after you, did a couple loops, then flew on to BXK to the west.   So it wasn't in pattern with you because it was to the west.

You can do these replays yourself now with version 11.1, by selecting "Menu => Simulation Mode => Replay ADSB Log" and select it from the list.  You can run it at 10x normal speed to save you time, while also being slow enough for you to witness what happened.

Please try this, and see if it compares to what you remember seeing while on the actual flight.  It's possible we have a bug that is more elusive.

Hi Brian

Haven't checked the replay yet, but I can tell you the following:

  • My previous (idential) tablet had the same issue, but missed displaying a different aircraft, so I don't think its the aircraft equipment.
  • I was in our practice area last week and 5199B was out there with me (can't remember if that is one of the logs I sent or not) and they were close to us. Of course, my tablet didn't display them, so I loaded iFly up on my phone and there they were, clear as a bell.

So, I suspect it's something related to either my type of tablet - Samsung Tab a SM-T350 - or the version of Android - Nougat 7.1.1. My phone - Samsung Galaxy S7 - is running Oreo 8.0.0.

Ian, once you learn how to do the "Menu => Simulation Mode => Replay ADSB Log", you will be able to run a review of the performance while on the ground, to confirm what you saw.  Additionally, maybe you'll see that in replay mode, it behaves differently (although it shouldn't, and if it does, then we have a strange bug to squash).
