I realize that there are a plethora of Android devices with vastly different screen resolutions/aspect ratios.

So it must be difficult to make everything present the same on every device.

Case in point, here's how the Winds Aloft forecast looks on a Nook HD+, with 3:2 aspect ratio. (And I've hacked the DPI to make screen elements bigger.)

I can't make sense of it.

Perhaps there should be a "grid page" on first run of iFly for Android, where the user moves dots or lines around to match a picture Brian gives us? (Kinda like we used to do with the "Digitizer" on the old Palm Pilots.) That way, Brian could get some information on our screens and from that, reverse engineer how winds aloft (and other text pages) should paint.

Hi Mike - I think that I would first suggest that Brain first try trimming the flight levels off after 180. 18,000 ft. and above is all class A airspace anyway and I'd imagined that any airplane flying in class A airspace is going to have way more instrumentation than us lower pilots could ever dream of. Or maybe they have less because they are just following ATC directions. Anyway, I think tables like the winds aloft would be readable if the data were trimmed to more match our needs. - Jim Williams

Agreed. Not displaying winds above FL 180 might be the easiest solution. (With the caveat below.)

Along similar lines: Over the Christmas holidays I sent Shane a screen shot of the (shaded) Restricted airspace complex over China Lake/Edwards (NV). According to iFly, the airspace has no corridors. But that's because iFly shows the Restricted airspace above FL 180 in the mix. Whereas, below FL 180, there are some corridors thru the R complex.

As you point out, Class A flying is different from what most of us do. So, as a minimum, iFly should not show Class A stuff for VFR only subscriptions. (Since you can't fly in Class A without IFR clearance.) And perhaps iFly can further differentiate by offering an IFR low and IFR low/high subscription?

But then the winds aloft problem comes back for Class A pilots. So it will have to be solved eventually.

BTW, IIRC, Gamin Pilot had this same problem getting Winds aloft to tabulate out in a pretty format, even on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.
