Just installed version 8.1.43b on a Nexus 7 (new model) and downloaded the maps for Texas. While flying, the GPS kept cutting on and off to the point of not been able to use the application in flight. I checked the GPS on the Nexus 7 using Google Maps while flying and the GPS works great. I been using an iFly720 for the past 18 months so I am familiar with the application. Anybody else having problems with the GPs on a Nexus 7?

I flew today with Nexus 7 using SkyGuard transceiver and the GPS kept cutting in and out, but I never lost if for longer than a few seconde.

Jim, If you're using the SkyGuard, then the iFly software is pulling the GPS data from the SkyGuard and not internally from the Nexus 7. (You could possibly improve your GPS reception by relocating the SkyGuard GPS puck antenna for a better view of the sky.)

Jorge, I have used a yoke-mounted Nexus 7 (2013) in my Cherokee, and had good results with the internal GPS. (I fly primarily in SE/E Texas.)

I have seen, though, the airplane on the moving map stop updating on rare occasions. Exiting and restarting the app always restored the moving map to normal operation. (Not sure what indications you were looking at to conclude a loss of GPS...could you be more specific?)

Yes, I'm aware of that. The GPS puck was sitting on the center of the glare shield with clear view of the sky. I don't know if the issue was from the SkyGuard GPS, the SkyGuard, the Nexus 7, or the IFly GPS app. It could have been either of them.

I used my Gen 1 Nexus 7 in the back seat of a Commander 114 today for over two hours. No drop outs at all, four bars most of the time, three bars minimum with the internal GPS. The new beta software was flawless.
