I tried again today, first I installed the "GPS Test" App to see if the Nexus 7 is actually losing the internal GPS signal, or the iFly program cannot see the GPS. Had the same results with IFly, the GPS will work for a few minutes and then it will get the "No GPS Position Lock" red banner, the Fix Quality will show no signal, and no more screen refresh (program is still working). I switched real quick to GPS Test, and it showed rock solid GPS signal with several satellites in sight. I took pictures of both screen. I flew for half an hour looking at output of GPS Test and it never loss the signal. I am going to reinstall the IFly program and maybe perform a factory reset. Next step will be to use an external GPS. Will let you know

Thanks

FYI,

I returned my 2nd generation Nexus 7 for similar problems. Google support supposedly issued a fix, but some users found it wanting. Gps loses lock especially when switching applications, but I found that the lock would be lost every 20-30 minutes. Some units never had this problem, so I suspect QA problems. First generation Nexus gps seemed to have better reliability. These problems were reported thoroughly on the Android support web sites, but Google seemed slow to react. Hope this helps.

Version 8.1.46b was just released with one fix to GPS logic. It *might* help your situation, but I predict it won't, since your symptom is different than the one we fixed. (The bug we fixed is specific to some devices where the GPS updates were not being sent to us when the device was stationary; and this is not the symptom you described).

Nevertheless, please update to 8.1.46b to see if your problem may have been fixed.

Brian, I upgraded to V 8.1.56b and still have the same problem with sporadic GPS reception while using iFly. It works 100% of the times while I am in "GPS Test", but I also noticed problems with Google Maps. I believe at this times the problem is related to the earlier GPS bug that Arthur describes in an earlier post. The unit is still on warranty so I am going to try to have it replaced. I use an iFly720 and love the software, having it also available for IOS and Android is just to good to pass.

Thanks,

Jorge
