Hello All:

Sorry, but I'm a new candidate for the iFly 720. I downloaded a manual but it does not look like the latest revision since the home page shows the 6 pack of instruments while the manual does not. So my questions are:

1 - What is the latest revision for the manual?

2 - Are there update pages to be added if there is not a complete update manual available?

3 - Since there are pictures of the 6 pack of instruments I guess they are available in the iFly 720 - - So the question is: Does the iFly 720 have to be mounted vertically for the 6 pack to work or can it be mounted off a yoke at an angle?

4 - One feature that I really liked while using a brand X GPS was - Extended Runway Center Line - Does the iFly 720 have this feature? At multiple close runways, it would make lineing up so much easier.

5 - I really like flying with an HSI, been using one for years. How accurate is the iFly 720's HSI? I don't know if that is the correct word 'accurate'... Can I use the 6 Pack and HSI as I would in any plane? I know it is not IFR approved, I don't intend to fly IFR with the 720. I'm asking: Will it save my bacon?

6 - When using the GPS NEMA output, can I connect it to more than one divice? [NEMA Autopilot and E.I. FP-5L fuel flow]

Thank you for your time in answering my NEWBI questions,

Barry

Hi Barry,

Thanks for checking in and inquiring about the iFly 720. Please see my responses to your questions below.

1-2. The latest revision of the Manual is 7.5.2, here is a direct link to it: http://ifly.adventurepilot.com/portal...

3. Yes, the iFly 700 and 720 can be mounted in either Landscape or Portrait mode. The iFly does not rotate and switch automatically, this is not a good feature for aviation. With the iFly, you'd set it to Protrait or Vertical mode and it will stay that way.

4. The iFly also has Extended Runways. When approaching an airport, you can simply touch that airport and select Show Extended Runways from the list. You then have an option to choose the desired runway.

5. The iFly's HSI is as accurate as the GPS signal. Keep in mind, the Altimeter is GPS Altitude, not Pressure Altitude. Also the Speed is GroundSpeed, not AirSpeed. Since the iFly is not connected to the avionics of the plane and it is driven by GPS altitude, it won't show the Glideslope. You would have a Vertical Speed Indicator, though. As with any portable device, I would not recommend it as the primary IFR Navigation. I'm sure some of the other guys could tell you thier experiences. I'd rather have the iFly and its IFR Plates, HSI, 6 Pack than nothing.

6. We output the NMEA data through the USB port. You'd need a USB to Serial (rs-232) cable, available on our store for $25. From there you could just pin in multiple connection to the Data pin. On a standard DB-9 connector, Pin #3 is Data and Pin #5 is Ground. We've got lots of pilots running multiple NMEA outs, Autopilots, EFIS, Fuel Flow, etc without issue.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact us at 1-888-200-5129. I think you will be very pleased with the iFly GPS and the community of pilots that have the iFly. They are the best and very passionate aviators.

Hello Shane:

Thank you for responding so quickly.

I guess I did not make myself very clear on question #3, sorry. What I was referring to when I used the term 'Vertical' is the slope of the planes' instrument panel. I ask this question because some instruments have to specifically order for the slope of the panel. An example of this would be the T&B and AH. They have to be specific for the angle of the panel. My question is: Since there is the 6 Pack of instruments can the iFly be mounted on the yoke at an angle, will that affect the T&M?

And Shane, your answers sure do help, thanks.

Barry

Barry,

I had that thought, but must have missed adding it. The iFly does not have gyros or accelerometers built into it, so these gauges are based on GPS information or an external AHRS like the Levil, if connected. The slope, angle or mounting position of the iFly GPS will not affect how the 6-Pack reads or functions. Hopefully that will clarify your concern.
