Grey area on radar weathe

Recently I am seeing a lot of grey areas on the weather depiction, new to me. What is it's intention? Ido see light rain, but also see that in gren areas.

At the bottom of the weather map there is a color bar that shows the different colors. The best I can make out is the Gray color shows threating clouds but no preciptation. Green is rain and white is snow.
