On a recent flight north from SoCal I had occasion to fly over Palmdale Airport(KPMD) and as I approached from the south and was about 5 sm from the airport my aircraft ICON just stopped moving across the map. I tried a restart on my LG G2 tablet...no luck. Then did a full shut down and started it up again. By this tim I had flown over the airport and was 5 miles north.
When IFLY came up my plane was still 5 miles south and then after a few seconds the icon jumped to my actual position 6 miles north of palmdale and tracked OK for the rest of the trip.
Sounds like a random anomaly, BUT WAIT!
On the way back south the same thing happened only this time I left the tablet on and after I had passed Palmdale to the south it started tracking accurately after I had passed over the airport.
Palmdale is an Civilian/Air Force Operation "Open to the public, OFFICIAL BUSINESS ONLY. MILITARY AIRPORT CIVIL USE REQUIRES USAF APPROVAL AND DDFORM 2400.02." As read from the IFLY Airport Info.
There are airline flights into this field.
Was the tracking drop out a coincedence or is it possible that the AF can interrupt the GPS signal in the event of an incoming missile?
Has anyone on the forum had their GPS tracking temporarily drop out with no notice of lost or weak satellite connection from IFLY?
