I guess I should have been more specific. The problem is not with the 740, but with the intermittent connection to my power port.

I have to use a three way adaptor to connect the GPS, ADS-B & intercom. It is rather bulky and the slightest displacement of the adaptor causes power loss. With the intercom connected if it gets suddenly quiet I know exactly where to look. A little push on the adaptor and all is well. Without the intercom silence clue I don’t catch the power loss until I look down at the GPS and discover that it is off.

I would just like to have the unit stay on battery and give me a notice rather than turning itself off after 15 seconds.

Thanks!!

PS: I love my 740!!!!!

Seems like the obvious solution would be to improve your connection to your 12v source.

And yet if the 740 has an internal battery that doesn't seem to be functioning as intended, the feedback is definitely valid.

Of course it is. Nobody said or implied it wasn't.

Chris - I've had the same experience with my 720 using three different power cables: 1) the cable from external battery to iFly 720, 2) the iFly external power cable connected to aircraft bus, and 3) custom cable with heavier cable and extra heatshrink. Custom cable works better but still cuts out; maybe velcro will help here.
