Had a very nice e-mail exchange with Shane Woodson at iFly. When viewing the absolute altitude of a target, the target's indicated altitude should be quite accurate. When viewing the relative altitude of a target (by invoking the relative altitude mode via the Settings>Alerts and Warnings menu), iFly uses your GPS altitude to calculate the relative altitude. Was told this was the best compromise. As such, when viewing a target's relative altitude it is only accurate when your GPS altitude matches your actual altitude. (Does not happen very often, could be 200-300' or more different).

My kudos to iFly. They REALLY take the time to answer your question!!! Thanks, Shane.

BUT the warning as stated in the preceeding post says..... Ensure there is a LOT of separation. We must STILL "See and Avoid"

Yes, the only altitude IFly has for your plane is your GPS altitude that can vary several hundred feet vs your altimeter. However, I'm not totally certain about the altitude IFly has for the traffic. Again, your ADS-B may be receiving air-to-air traffic via 1090 or the ground station signal via 978. Some of that traffic has ADS-B out and some only mode C. Do we know for sure what the FAA is transmitting to our ADS-B in device?

Decided to call iFly one more time. Now it is clear to me!! Spoke to Shane for a bit. When looking at a traffic target.......

If using the absolute mode - The traffic's PRESSURE ALTITUDE is displayed.

If using the relative mode - TRAFFIC PRESSURE ALTITUDE minus YOUR GPS ALTITUDE is displayed
