Desktop Mult-Time Zone Gadget
I do a lot of cross country flight planning across multiple time zones and use adjunct programs like DUATS, etc. to validate my data before it is entered into iFly. The time-zone to zulu conversions drive me nuts. Ya think Local -5 or two time zones west at GMT - 6 or -7 would be a breeze in my head. Well, sorry to say its not. Looked and looked for a Windows digital clock gadget that would do 24-hr time. They are hard to find. Found some on but the itty-bitty digits just wouldn't work out. Then, I stumbled on to 'TimeZoneClock gy Galleon Systems (http://www.time-zones.com/). It's a free-bee they use to demonstrate their NTP Time Servers. It will display as many time zones as you need. All time zones are in a 24-hr format. Can't switch to an AM/PM display. It drag-n-drop sizable, can change fonts, background, etc. And you can pick any time zone anywhere in the world (but, you can't rename them). Add as many as you want !!!

I'd like to see time zones overlaid on the charts - don't know how many times I've landed at an airport for fuel nad had to ask which zone they are in - embarrasing.

Actually, the timezones are indicated on the VFR Sectionals and IFR Low Level Charts. Lookup KRKW and you will see that the EST/CST timezone change is indicated by the dotted line right through the middle of the airport.

That's great if that is where you are landing. Not likely that the dotted line would do much good elsewhere.

It would be kinda neat if the "Time" Instrument would indicate which time zone the device is currently in. Would also be nice to have a GMT/Zulu Instrument as well. I use Droid Apps on my Phone/Tablets to look up where I am and then figure out what time zone I am in.

Funny side note. You know, I could NOT find a single Droid App that would tell me what Time Zone I am in. Lots of apps give me the ability to look it up. However, I did find lots of hacks on how to do it. Not gifted in that way. One of the hacks actually said that if you do do it - it will likely break your phone.

It looks to me that the dotted line through KRKW is the 5°W magnetic deviation line.

I like the idea of a time zone instrument in iFly - I don't really need to see the lines, just which one I am in.

Hi - I down loaded a time zone map of the US and saved it as a jpeg file. Then I loaded the file onto my iFly 700 and my Android tablet. My aviation watch has two time settings. One is City time and the other is world time. I live in the Mountain time zone so my city time is set to Denver - even tough I live in Utah. I keep my world time set to London (UTC or Zulu). I would welcome a Zulu clock on the iFly. - Jim Williams BTW, Landing and having to ask what time it is isn't nearly as embarrassing as having to ask where you are. Those who flew before GPS know what I'm talking about.
