After much research on portable GPS's, the iFLy 700 has some great features and capabilities. My one concern is the size. I made a cardboard mockup of the unit to see how it would fit in my Warrior and a concern I have is that it takes up more windshield space then I was hoping for. If I move it to the side, of the winshield, I block some to left instruments. Has anyone done an install in a Piper PA-28? I'm now looked at mounting the unit near the throttle / mixture quad. This would require a gooseneck mount in order not to interface with the flap handle and would require an external gps antenna.

Walter, what kind of mount does the Ifly 700 accept if I try to use a gooseneck mount for a GPS unit?

I'm not aware of an off-the-shelf mount that fits the iFly 700. In time I will have an adapter to make the iFly compatible with the RAM mounting system, which will give you a host of different options. Until then, all I can do is offer to sell you an extra suction mount that you could customize or adapt...sorry I don't have a better answer yet.

Thanks!
Walter

Try this, http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-GARMIN-RAM-YO...

Now you have a flat surface to mount your Ifly 700. Purchase some heavy duty Velcro from Wally World (Wal-Mart). Attach your Ifly with the velcro. It should work but I haven't tried yet. However, I used a similar set up to mount an old Lowrance GPS and it worked fine. If you remove the Ifly from the mount often you may need to reapply the Velcro once a year or so.

Possible error. ... I wrote a 10-24 carriage bolt worked but it may be a 1/4-20, if so the part# for the ram mount ball is wrong also. Anyone wanting to get on this might want to verify which bolt is correct before ordering the ball from Ram. (What they say about memory being the first thing to go may be true, but I just can't remember)

Anyone wishing to utilize Ram-Mount's system can do so easily. The square portion on a common 10-24 carriage bolt fits the outer (Visible) slot on the back of our GPS units and all that is needed to allow the bolt to be inserted into the mounting slot is to file the sides of the carriage bolt head to the same width as the factory bolt and file enough of the rounded portion of the bolt head to clear the back side of the mounting slot (by filing the "Rounded" part of the bolt head you will be shortening the overall length slightly). Ram mount has a 1 inch ball with a 10-24 female thread (Part #RAM-B-260U) that can be used with their other system components and you can buy 10-24 thumb-nuts in whatever style you prefer (including some that are identical to those supplied on the suction mount) from McMaster-Carr.
