I see your point about size changes...that would be unfortunate, especially since your panel is cut exactly for the device. I hope it stays the same for you!

On that note...

There is always a tension between innovation and standardization with technology...

I've even seen (on these pages) where folks have 5-7 year old equipment they want upgraded for free from IFly...can you imagine if folks wanted a new "free" car, phone, TV, computer, etc. because there were newer models and changes? Unthinkable!

In this country, the more people have, the more they want. It seems it's the ones who have their health, plenty of money, their own airplane (or airplanes), etc. that are never satisfied. Abundance breeds greed.

I know what you mean - lots of people want something for nothing.

The point that I am trying to make is that there are plenty of people that have invested alot of time and money in a system only to have it superceded by a unit that has more features but will not fit in the same mount. Brand "G" is famous for this. Ifly has held firm in this department. That is one of the reasons that I recomend it highly.

AdventurePilot probably doesn't have as much control over the form factor as you give them credit for.  I'm sure they selected a commercial off the shelf Panel PC device that best matched their requirements.  As long as the vendor continues to supply a model device in that form factor that meets AP's requirements, then they'll probably continue to stick with it.  That's good for them, because the fewer different platforms and the fewer differences between platforms that they need to code to and provide customer support for, the easier for AP.  And it's good for their customers, because as you point out, folks have become accustomed to this form factor, so upgrades are easiest if it's a simple swap-out and all the dimensions, power requirements, and port locations are the same.

But if the vendor ever retires that form factor or makes changes to the port layout on the bezel, well, AP may not be able to control that.
