Terrain will be incorporated into all map modes. Relatively low terrain will be highlighted as yellow or red, and pop-up and audible alerts will give plenty of heads-up on dangerous terrain and obstructions. Obstructions over x altitude will be drawn on all maps with a red circle. But in vector mode we will draw more, appropriate to the zoom level. We are also adding an instrument that shows a terrain/obstruction/airspace vertical profile for your current ground track. You can change the scale of this, or briefly go full screen with this instrument. And we're incorporating this feature into our flight planning so you can see a vertical profile for your entire flight, plan altitudes (multiple altitudes if desired). Or you can pick a ceiling, the map will be drawn with highlights based on that ceiling, then you can touch/drag your flight plan to sculpt your way through mountainous areas.
To determine what constitutes "high terrain", as well as the many variables used in alerting, we started with the FAAs TSO-C151b. The iFly will apply rules to determine the current flight phases - takeoff, cruise, approach, landing, etc, and match appropriate alerting criteria for each phase. Beyond this we will give the user the ability to select their desired verbosity or aggressiveness of the alert settings, or of course it can be disabled.
Hope this helps.
