I believe that iFly reminds you to close your flight plan on the device used to open the flight plan. The problem I'm having is that I usually open a flight plan on my phone since I don't generally have an internet connection in my airplane for the tablet I use for navigation, so when I land at my destination my tablet doesn't reminded to close the flight plan.

I realize there's probably no easy way for iFly running on the tablet to know that I've opened the flight plan on my phone but maybe we could have an option to always remind us to close our flight plan when we've come to a stop at our destination. It's always embarrasing to receive a call from flight services when I forget to close it.

Thanks,

Larry

Your idea is fine if it can be done, but in the meantime why don't you sign up for EasyActivate and EasyClose on Leidos (where your flight plan gets filed at)?  They text you when it's close to activation time and closing time and that both reminds you and also provides an easy way to activate/close by responding to the text.  They can also send you an email if you want.

I appreciate your feedback. I used to use that service before iFly made it so easy to open and close flight plans in the app. The problem with text messages is that I still have to remember to check my phone after each flight that I opened a flight plan for. It's easy to forget when I get pre-occupied with getting the airplane chocked, running to the bathroom etc. The one thing I always look at immediatly after I shutdown the engine is iFly because it's right in my face and I want to exit the app and shutdown the tablet to avoid running the battery down.

What I've been doing lately is sticking a big yellow note to the dashboard that says "Close Flight Plan". That works but it would be nice not to have look at that the entire flight. :)

I hear you.  My phone happens to be in front of me, so I see the texts come in.

A trick that I've used before: upon opening a flight plan I move my watch from my customary left wrist to my right wrist.  Feels weird and reminds me that I have an open flight plan.  I picked that up in some EAA or AOPA article or forum.  It has an advantage over the sticky-note solution in that it works even after you've exited the plane (if you miss your sticky note, or delay acting upon it).
