I appreciate your feedback. I used to use that service before iFly made it so easy to open and close flight plans in the app. The problem with text messages is that I still have to remember to check my phone after each flight that I opened a flight plan for. It's easy to forget when I get pre-occupied with getting the airplane chocked, running to the bathroom etc. The one thing I always look at immediatly after I shutdown the engine is iFly because it's right in my face and I want to exit the app and shutdown the tablet to avoid running the battery down.
What I've been doing lately is sticking a big yellow note to the dashboard that says "Close Flight Plan". That works but it would be nice not to have look at that the entire flight. :)

Your idea is fine if it can be done, but in the meantime why don't you sign up for EasyActivate and EasyClose on Leidos (where your flight plan gets filed at)? They text you when it's close to activation time and closing time and that both reminds you and also provides an easy way to activate/close by responding to the text. They can also send you an email if you want.
