I keep seeing from the FAA that they support electronic transmission of PIREPs (either in-flight, or up to 5 hours later).  Does iFly have any plans to implement this?  I think of it as analogous to using the app to submit flight plans to Leidos.  I would definitely be submitting more pilot reports if the app supported it (filling in fields 2-5 automatically [Location, Time, Altitude, Aircraft Type] and providing dropdown selections for the first field [UA or UUA] and the optional fields 6-12).

In the last "FAAST Blast" newsletter: Another simple way to prepare and send PIREPs from the cockpit is with inflight electronic PIREP submissions. It works with an easy-to-use, menu-based interface either on a mobile device or cockpit avionics, which allows word selection to describe the level of the weather experienced. As suggested by the NTSB, vendors have modified platforms to accept PIREP submissions up to five hours after occurrence, providing additional valuable data to fill in observation gaps for forecast models and advisory products. JOOC, how would this work, in a general sense?  Would iFly somehow transmit Pireps "instantly" over the ADS--B or some other system, or would iFly hold the information and transmit it once we've landed and connected to the internet through some WiFi network?

This Leidos service requires an internet connection of some sort -- either a satellite uplink (like GlobalStar,SkyConnect, Garmin), cellular, WiFi or ethernet.  Not a whole lot of us have satellite data transmission equipment in our planes so that leaves cellular.  Cellular is not very reliable in flight and is also against the FCC (not FAA) regs to operate in the air.  We could certainly develop a feature to queue up PIREPS and dump them when you have internet but wonder how valuable this would be non-realtime.  For instance, I flew a long leg this past weekend over the Sierra's and the edge of southern Rockies.  We experienced light chop at 13,500 over a specific mountain range.  We landed about 3 hrs later and have no idea if the turbulence was still there.

Thoughts on value of feature like this?

From the OP, "As suggested by the NTSB, vendors have modified platforms to accept PIREP submissions up to five hours after occurrence, providing additional valuable data to fill in observation gaps for forecast models and advisory products."  Apparently the NTSB and FAA Safety folks think submissions up to 5 hrs after the fact have some value.
