I keep seeing from the FAA that they support electronic transmission of PIREPs (either in-flight, or up to 5 hours later). Does iFly have any plans to implement this? I think of it as analogous to using the app to submit flight plans to Leidos. I would definitely be submitting more pilot reports if the app supported it (filling in fields 2-5 automatically [Location, Time, Altitude, Aircraft Type] and providing dropdown selections for the first field [UA or UUA] and the optional fields 6-12).
In the last "FAAST Blast" newsletter: Another simple way to prepare and send PIREPs from the cockpit is with inflight electronic PIREP submissions. It works with an easy-to-use, menu-based interface either on a mobile device or cockpit avionics, which allows word selection to describe the level of the weather experienced. As suggested by the NTSB, vendors have modified platforms to accept PIREP submissions up to five hours after occurrence, providing additional valuable data to fill in observation gaps for forecast models and advisory products.
