Would it be reasonably possible to have the ability to have iFly plot a course along major highways?  It seems this might be most useful in the mountains where following a road is (as I understand) usually the easiest and safest way through.  I'm not talking about following side streets, just major interstates, or other special roads in remote areas that would get us to/from airports.

Along with this, since it was mentioned in another topic, perhaps the ability to set a GPS Direct course from IND to PHX, then have iFly modify it to present a course over airports at user selected distances.

I suppose the first thing would be to see if this is even desired by a number of users, then whether or not it's a task worth the effort of the iFly team to implement.

Not sure if it could be done.  But I'd use it in a lot of long cross countries, especially thru the mountains.  There would have to be some kind of limits -- I mean, you probably wouldn't want the *whole* route to be zig zagging over roads, just in certain areas.  And speaking of zig zagging, there would have to be some "smoothing out" to minimize course turns to some degree.

It would be possible if iFly had an interstate highway layer to overlay the aviation charts.  I doubt they have such.

Hi A'll -  (1)  You do know about "ruberbanding" the course line, right?
              (2)  My VFR Sectionals already have the interstate highways printed on them.
              Am I missing something here?

I think they are just printed on a sectional, probably not in a database that specifies their exact location with every twist and turn and identified with hwy number, etc.
