I'm finding the Metars and TFR's feature on the iFly very useful on long X-country flights. I wonder if your bright programers might be able to come up with some sort of program that we could load onto a dedicated thumb drive. The program would sense when the thumb drive is pluged into a computer, jump on the internet, go to your site, down load the latest Metars and TFR's, and then shut the drive down making it safe for removal. I can see attaching my thunb drive to my clipboard which I always carry into the FBO to file my flight plan. While talking with the brifer, I plug the drive into the planning room's computer, then pull it out after fileing. Go to the plane, start up, plug the thumb drive into the iFly and download the current infomation.

Sounds like all I'm saving is loging onto your site, but, some FBO's do not like pilots messing up their 'weather' computers.

PS One more thought - Take a look at: http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/full.php Any chance of loading that on the iFly? We could use the image viewer to look at it.

Jim,

Good ideas. We do want to develop an auto-updater app that would work similar to this: You would put your SD card into your computer (or into a SD Reader that goes into your USB port on your computer). Our auto-update app would figure out what needs to be updated and trickle the data down from our server directly to the card. Doing this on the FBOs computer might be possible...will keep this in mind when we start this project.

Our version 6 software includes Nexrad via ADSB, so much of the technology needed to show this data from a download is very reasonable - will look into this as well.

Thanks,
Walter

To further this idea if I had two matching SD cards I could simply swap them and would thus always have a back up since all the primary programing is on the SD?

That would work for the iFly software, but not iFly Streets - the license for that product is bound to a particular SD card and cannot be moved.
