I took the plunge and ordered mine this morning, and am really looking forward to getting hands on with it.
After reading most of what can be found on the forums and in the available pdf documents, it's my understanding that the gps chip is WAAS capable, but not yet WAAS enabled, and that it's on the wish-list to provide a setting to permit toggling WAAS. This sounds pretty good to me, albeit, my present GPS pre-dates WAAS by more than a decade, and I don't really appreciate what difference having WAAS enabled might provide for a handheld unit. It's irrational, but I think I want WAAS 'cause the big-time spendy moving maps do have it, so I'd like to keep up with the Garminses.
I'd really enjoy a bit more background and discussion about the prospects for and technical conundrums surrounding the enabling of WAAS in the iFly. Are there power considerations for those running on a battery? Is there a greater demands on the system processor or memory that could degrade speed or performance if WAAS is enabled? Would having WAAS enabled in the iFly actually provide any performance advantages, particularly when shadowing the execution of an approach? Are there other questions I ought to be asking?
Anyone with knowlege or an opinion please feel free to chime in on this one.
Lastly, I'd like to publicly thank the folks at Adventure Pilot for the wonderful TRANSPARANCY they've brought to the development and marketing of this device. I've never felt more confidence in a purchase concerning my flying, EVER. If my iFly, when it comes, proves to have any unexpected shortcomings, I suspect they will be minor, and fairly addressed with exemplery support, from everything I've read here.
