What do you think of making the length of the course line longer or perhaps variable in length. Say, the more off course you get, the longer the course line becomes. This would be a visual cue that your heading needs to be adjusted. I have seen some units where the course line extends all of the way off the screen and while this makes course deviations easy to see when compared to the route line it seems unnecessary when you are actually on course. If that would be too difficult to implement, a user selectable course line length would be an acceptable alternative...
