Since the 720 now displays in Portrait View, rather than center the aircraft in the screen, why not by default put it in the lower portion of the screen and at the top of the screen, give an option to show a portion of a compass rose arc so as to create an arc view? Seems to me that most pilots are concerned with whats ahead of them, rather than behind them, so default positioning the aircraft close to the bottom of the screen shows more of what's ahead without having to scroll the screen down.

Thanks,

John

Hey John,

Good feedback. When the iFly is in motion, when in North Up, we always pan the plane back to the rearward edge of the screen, keeping the most forward viewability as possible. When not in motion, it centers. Likewise, in Track Up mode, we pan the plane to the bottom edge of the screen as well when in motion. Take it for a drive or for a flight and you should see this behavior. We do have keeping the plane in the center and also being able to choose the offset on our wishlist. I hope this helps clear up any confusion.

I see you're waaay ahead of me! LOL! Yep, I just got it out of the box and was playing with it on the ground today - too windy to fly - so I didn't have it in motion. Hopefully I'll get airborne tomorrow and can check-out the function as you describe. A partial-arc compass rose at the top of the screen in track-up would be a nice touch and perhaps extend a faint actual track line from the plane to the arc.

Regards,

John

I like that idea, I'll add that to our wishlist for when we offer Split Screen or add Synthetic Vision, both of which are on the development list. Thanks for the great feedback.

When you go fly with it, make sure you have the Compass Rose enabled in the Map Settings. When you put a waypoint in, you'll see an orange ball appear on the compass rose, then just fly the track line (blue line extending from the airplane icon) to the orange ball (waypoint), you'll get to your waypoint everytime. Pilots loved this at Sun n' Fun this past week.

Enjoy and be safe!

I dunno, Shane, your compass rose with the orange dot is pretty neat! I'm not sure if my "arc view" suggestion would add much or not. Of course, if you just put a portion of the arc at the top of the screen, the scale would be a little bigger - the orange dot could be placed there, too. About the only negative I see with the present compass rose is that it is in the immediate path-ahead of the airplane and by placing the compass arc at the top of the screen, you'd have a more unobstructed view of the immediate area ahead of the airplane. If you went to the arc view and placed the orange dot up there, you'd of course have to extend the track line from the airplane up to the arc.

Either way works, but you might want to try what I suggested and see what you think ... like I said, I do like the rose/orange dot setup, too!
