Hi! jeff

Do you know of cigarette adaptor WITH a diode built in,this would solve the problem,or is there diodes out there that you could wire in-line at the cord

I bought a few Schottky diodes (eBay) for a small solar project I did at home; other than that I know nothing about them. I don't know their failure rate, etc., so I'm not sure they're even suitable for such uses. But your concept of an adapter/splitter that contains one sounds like a great idea...

12 volts in the electrical system won't create a "hot mag" situation. The ignition circuit is separate from the aircraft electrical system. If you have some other type of ignition system besides conventional magnetos there might be a different story.

A switch can solve the problem, though just like a master, you have to remember to turn it off.

The current power plug, the "push-in" type will fail after some length of time. I have an ICOM A23 that I use in my Stearman with a DC adapter that uses a similar power plug. The connector has become intermittent to the point it's useless. Given the intended purpose of the iFly to be moved from aircraft to aircraft and car to car, and the nature of the mounting system, the power plug is going to fail to maintain contact at some time. I already see this occurring intermittently on my iFly 720 during a recent 6 hour trip. A more durable/reliable power connector would be highly desirable.

Thanks thammer for making me think it through. You are correct, the mags would be hot by virtue of the mag switch being accidently left ON, regardless of whether there was still power on the bus. So the issue becomes, an extra battery on the electronics side of the switch would potentially energize an intercom, radio, beacon, interior lamp, or other device normally turned OFF by the master, until the voltage dropped enough to possibly damage the electronics.

As for an unreliable connection:

I've had something similar happen on motorcycles due to the 12v receptical's ground failing. Usually, some fine steel wool swished around inside the receptical (make sure it's not hot unless you like fireworks, or you can use fine sandpaper) will clean off the invisible crud/film that builds up over time. In one case, the ground wire connection on the receptical needed to be removed, cleaned, and reinstalled.
