When clicking on the View Diagram button in the Quick View box, or on the Airport Info page, instead of just telling the user "No diagram found for airport XXX" could you offer a button in that dialog box to take the user to the RealView? Otherwise, the user clicks on that button, gets the error dialog, has to click on OK, center the map on the desired airport, zoom in, (probably re-center again), zoom in some more (maybe re-centering again) until finally hitting the RealView level.

Or, at least gray-out the View Diagram button where no diagram exists?  Or, better, change the View Diagram button to say RealView instead where no diagram exists?

Thanks.

I was thinking about this the other day, too, but from a different perspective.  Still, it might (at least partially) address Hook's desire.

Currently, the Aitport Info page has the outline of the runways inset in the lower-left corner, with two links on that figure:  "Show on Map", and either "Airport Diagram" or "RealView", where "Airport Diagram" is presented if one exists and "RealView" is presented otherwise.

While I normally want to see the Airport Diagram instead of the RealView if one is available so this UI approach works for me most of the time, there are occasions when I want to see the RealView instead, so it would be nice if both options were available.

One way to do this would be to always put "Show on Map" in the lower left, always put "Show RealView" in the upper left, and then, when an Airport Diagram is available, present that option in the upper right.  That's a deviation from current behavior and might initially be surprising to users who are used to seeing the "Airport Diagram" option in the upper left when it's available, but I think it will be intuitive/obvious since it will still appear nearby.

(Didn't this inset used to work something like that in the past?  I want to say it used to be that if you tapped in the top part of the inset, you got the Diagram, and if you tapped in the lower part, you got the RealView, or vice-versa...)

Thank you. I thought I remembered that there was some place that RealView was always available from but I guess I forgot it was there, and didn't even notice it, in the runway diagram.  [Edit: it's also there if you click on More Options in the QV box -- *that's* where I remember finding it now.]

A couple of notes: (in Windows anyway) the runway diagram is in the upper right not lower left; I like your suggestions fine as an adjunct to my suggestions but the upper right of the runway diagram box (in Windows) is currently occupied by a colored Metar dot and possible wind barb; lastly, I pulled up the airport info page for an airport that does have a diagram and it still did not change "RealView" to "Airport Diagram" in the upper left of the runway box for me -- if I understood correctly what you were saying.

If your suggestion can be worked out that would be a good change.  But I think having a View Diagram button in the QV and the Airport Info page when there isn't one available is misleading (and time wasting), so I'd like to see that addressed.  If it's programmatically problematic (how's that for a phrase?) to know whether there's a diagram available prior to popping up the QV or Airport Info page, then I think my original suggestion of having the error dialog box (which at that point does know there's no diagram) offer up an option to bring up RealView is a good solution.

Hook, I meant to mention in my last post and forgot:  I think what you're describing is a bug.  I don't think iFly is supposed to present you with an "Airport Diagram" link if there isn't one.  (I don't know what it's supposed to do if the airport has a diagram but iFly hasn't downloaded it...which may be the situation you're in?)

And you're right:  In portrait orientations, the runway outlines are in the lower-left corner of the Airport Info page, but are in the upper-right corner in Landscape orientations (like a Windows laptop screen).  Thanks for that reminder.
