I would like to hear from others on how they use some of the information from iFly to flight plan. I have been lobbying, albiet ineffectively, to have the airport elavation displayed near the METAR box so that it can be added to the cloud height shown in the METAR to get the MSL height of the cloud. For years, the first thing I look at when checking weather for a flight, is the METARs. My goal is the see if I can fly VFR below the clouds. But to make that information useful, I need to know the elevation of the airport (at least out West). For example, Driggs, Idaho (KDIG) is currently showing OVC 100. But that doesn't help me determine if I can fly in the area. I need to know the elevation of the airport to make this piece of information valuable. Driggs sits at 6200' msl. I add that to OVC 100 to get a cloud base of 16,000'. I can fly in that area under 16,000 and not run into a mountain.
So the airport elevation is critical to use this information for flight planning. Anyone else have this need?
