When operating in night mode all is fine until I bring up a menu. Why is it that the menu "colors" are not reversed in night mode, with the primary background color of the menu going grey and the words being white? It's much dimmer than in day mode, but that white is too bright when my eyes are night adjusted. My unit says I'm version 5.15.

I gather the brightness at night doesn't bother anybody else. I flew with it again tonite, and even with the brightness turned all the way down in night mode, the unit is still too bright for having it where I want it, right there on my yoke. It really should be a no brainer software-wise to give us all another couple of levels of dimming in both day and night modes, right!? Once my eyes are night-adjusted, the lowest brightness level in night mode is still too bright.

Unfortunately it's not a no-brainier. There are hardware limitations on how dim the screen will go before the LCDs simply shut off completely. I have put it on our list to change menu colors in night mode, and we will tweak other screens as needed to improve this, but otherwise it's cannot get any dimmer. However most folks find the night mode pretty accommodating to dark nights. Q: What is the serial # of your unit?

PS...something to consider: You can use the remote to turn off the screen (the computer/GPS keeps running)...then you can turn it on to spot check your progress rather than leave it on all the time.

Thanks, Walter. Bummer on hardware limitations, but what you suggest with using the remote is a solution that will work for me. Thanks for considering flipping colors in the menus when in night mode; in my opinion that kind of attention to detail in a product is greatly appreciated. I just bought my unit a couple weeks ago from one of your dealers here in OR; the serial number is MB140059.

I went out and purchased automotive window tint (5%VLT) and cut out a piece that fit over the screen. With the display on full bright and the film placed over the display the night viewability was perfect. The touch screen functioned normally. Keeping the film on the screen was a challenge and I'm now in the process of developing a way to easily secure it and remove it from the screen.
