Walter - I just read the requests for an E6B on the iFly. How about a simple spreadsheet program for our units? With a small spreadsheet available, each pilot could have his very own E6B taylored to his aircraft. Also, check lists, weight & balance, aircraft performance figues, etc. could be easily entered for each aircraft the pilot flys.

I don't know how much available memory is on the iFly, but a simple spreadsheet program only requires around 1.5 mb. There are several free spreadsheet programs available on the internet - Google 'simple spreadsheet'. As far as I'm concern, some of the 'extras' like the card game and vidio player could go if you need the memory.

I agree with Jim... I have no use for games, photos, mps etc on the IFLY..I'd rather see the memory used for aviation related features

7-24-11, Can the iFly accept any of the "app's" that are out there now...?

If you can write code to add an e6b calculator in a spreadsheet and have it calculate TH, GS, WCA, etc. (I presume the "megenta" line gives up some data). Why then can't you just add this code to the "flight plan" and allow me to enter the same e6b data that I got from the wx briefer into the iFly flight plan somewhere and have the iFly calculate a more "correct" flight plan; ready for filing, using this info instead of me filling up a "spreadsheet" and have me manually enter this info into the present flight plan where at present there are no data entry points...? I presume the iFly already can "calculate" GS and TC else wise how can it give me my times and headings/bearings now. To get better fuel burn calculations in the flight plan at present; I change my ETA and speeds by ballparking the effect the winds aloft will have and changing the AC speeds in the flight plan--sort of a "rube goldberg" approach to an e6b, try that while you're bouncing all around in turbulance, would be impossible to enter in a spreadsheet aloft. Not the best but good enough for fuel calculations. At present, I haven't figured out how to change the IFly actual TH based on the wind direction aloft even if I knew what it is from my wx briefing. I still can't seem to get a handle on what you mean by "True Track" and "True Bearing" instruments on the same enroute page...? I'm sure it's a calculated number based on the Sectional lats and longs and the megenta line, but which is which...? I don't think the GPS sats know which compass direction the AC is pointed toward. I do wish the owners manual would spend a page or so on these instruments..dp

Dave,

We have Inclusion of Winds Aloft in Flight Planning on our wishlist, we will get this added but don't have a date yet for that feature. As you note, the math is trivial it's just a matter of prioritizing the feature. With v6 we are adding winds aloft downloads, so that's one more piece of the puzzle to support this capability.

"Track" is your current track over the ground. "Bearing" is the track you need to fly to reach your destination. You can toggle the iFly between "True" or "Magnetic" north pole, but for aviation use "Magnetic" is more common.

I agree we need to add a page to our manual to describe each instrument in detail. Someone else recently mentioned this deficiency to us. We'll get that done. We're so familiar with the system here it's sometimes easy to miss gaps like that.
