I just got back from doing some night touch and goes. (I don't need iFly for T'N'G's, but it's nice to have Traffic from the Stratux.)

I notice this issue most at night, when flying is harder. So I bring it up tonight.

The problem is that, while in the Pattern, constantly turning - or while departing an airport at night with a turn or two before getting to steady state "on course" - it's hard to located the airport on the Map because the Map is constantly moving. (To to do its 1/3 / 2/3 presentation thing.) But you would like to be able to locate the Airport easily to return in case of trouble. Or as you look for Traffic relative to the airport. (Not relative to you per se.) Or just to stay oriented (especially at night).

I fly North Up, so the map isn't changing with each turn in the pattern as much as it would with Track Up. Still, the airport is never in the same place ss I fly upwind, crosswind, downwind, base and final with Ownship Centered.

Okay, so I can manually move the Map to center the airport instead of ownship when I'm in the Pattern and it stays there until I hit "Center."

But I would like a user selectable option where the map centers on the airport, say, after achieving Flight Mode, until you're 2000' AGL. (Some padding over the recommended TPA of 1500' for TurboProps. But do TurboProp guys stay in the Pattern to do T'N'G's? If not, then make the trigger be 1500' AGL.) Then the Map auto-Centers on Ownship, like normal for cross country.

Yes, it's a small thing. But it would be very helpful at night, when I don't need to be tapping things as climb out into the pitch black darkness.
