Avidyne recently announced FAA certification of v10.1.0.0 for its IFD540/440 panel-mounted GPS units, which includes 1-way (out) wifi data streaming to external tablet devices. (Two-way may come along in the future.)

I am very hopeful that iFly is working on (or, at the very least, planning to work on) including these Avidyne units in the list of supported devices for GPS and ADSB source data.

Walter/Shane/et. al., any interest in confirming or denying such plans?

Integrating with more devices like Avidyne, L3 and more is definitely on our development list. We will continue to add more support based on the level of cooperation from these companies. Example, we've contacted Garmin and others and they do not support other party devices. Stay tuned, we are definitely interested in integrating with Avidyne.

I know Garmin has consistently shown no interest in collaboration, and has gone out of their way to create proprietary interfaces to prevent interoperability.

Avidyne has at least claimed that they are interested in working with 3rd parties. They have specifically and consistently touted integration with tablets and other portable devices as one of their goals with their wifi and Bluetooth radios, though part of that involves keeping the FAA happy so that those nefarious portable devices can't "take over the plane" and do dastardly deeds.

Glad to hear you're interested in working with them! I hope they truly are as interested in working with you guys as they have led me to believe they are!

I am real interested in the L3-9000 series and integration with iFly would put me over the top, to buy it.

It's in the works. I've reached out to L3 a couple times now. The first time it was not ready and they were postponing the release. Now we are just in the cue for development. We should have some more information shortly. Stay tuned.
