Walter,
I have been flying with a Lowrance AirMap 2000C for the past 5 years; I recently received an iFly 700 as a Christmas gift. Today I took it on its maiden voyage.
I was impressed with the functionality of the iFly and its ease of use. There are however a few items that I must mention - especially if you are trying to improve on your original design and product release. Specifically:
1. The iFly display was difficult to see clearly. I was below a 4000' overcast layer and the colors did not appear vivid. The display brightness was adjusted but did not appear to make much difference. Perhaps a 'contrast' option might be considered.....
2. I really miss the extended runway centerline feature that I had on the AirMap 2000C. May I strongly suggest that this feature be developed and implemented. I recommend you make it an active choice - the pilot must select the runway he wants and then activate the centerline feature. He should also be able to deactivate the feature when desired.
3. Finally, I've had my iFly 'lock up' several times. The only way to unlock it is to reboot via power down/power on. In fact, I was demonstrating the iFly to a fellow pilot at the airport today and it locked up......I didn't make a good impression. May I suggest a 'soft key' to enable reboot without having to repower the unit, which is a bit of a distraction while in flight. Perhaps a diagnostic utility or log file that could provide you technical information on the cause of the 'lockup' could be implemented - it could be uploaded to you during the update process.
I'm looking forward to your reply.
Sincerely,
Lou Frank
