One feature that I really use a lot on my Garmin 295 is the Vertical Speed to Target instrument. Would it be possible to add an optional VST instrument that could be added to the customized group? Nothing fancy, just a decent readout in feet per minute; no GS bars, targets or alerts needed.

Thanks,

Dave McKinnon

Yes, that would be an easy feature to add. I suggest we calculate the value based on the next airport in the flight plan, or the final leg of the plan if there are no airports (could be someone is flying into their own field). I also suggest we only make the instrument visible when the VST reaches a reasonable glide rate, so you don't have an otherwise useless instrument in front of your map. Would be nice to have a big red instrument appear when it's close to descend time.

So what would be a reasonable glide rate to make the instrument appear? 400 fpm? 300? Or should we just make this configurable?

Thanks for the quick attention to my wish list item! I really like your keep it simple approach in the design this product, so I think an instrument that would appear when the rate of decent to the final destination (airport or user waypoint) is 300 feet per minute would really be nice.

Thanks,

Dave

I would think it would be convenient for this to have certain default values, but able to be configured as desired.

For example: I may want to end up at pattern altitude a mile or two from the destination. I may want to be at some other random altutude further out, like maybe an initial insturment approach altitude/fix.

If this is going to interpret altitudes from the maps (airport, or surrounding altitude), will it also alert if the predicted descent path will take you through an obstruction in the way? Mountains, buildings, antenna's, etc.?

This is a great idea. My checklist has an item under descent to start descent when the garmin 296 reaches 450 fpm, so it would be great to have this feature on the iFly. Pretty soon I'll be able to get rid of the 296! Having it show up at 300 fpm would work for me, but configurable would be nice.

Of course it would be nice to have this more configurable such as being able to specify a desired altitude at any specified point (so you know when to start a climb for a MCA or descend under a class B shelf), but fpm to the final waypoint would be great.
