it's because newer networks require second-level security, like I said in our email exchange. An example is connecting at a hotel and it says something along the lines of "click here to connect". 

If you don't see your home network all of a sudden, it could be that it's a 5 ghz network, we only work on 2.4

I would say it's a failing wifi module but you're getting adsb info so that's working.

Brolin...as I have previously stated, I am trying to connect to my home wifi, the same one I have had for years.  It is a 2.4ghz network and requires only a simple password.  In fact, I have 4 wifi networks; two from my cable company and two through my router.  Each has a 2.4 and a 5ghz.  I am only trying to connect to the 2.4 networks, and in particular, the one through my router that I have always used.  In addition, I have always been able to log on to FBO wifi (where a password is required but apparently not a second level network) in order to do my flight planning with real time metars and TAFs.  With my flights ranging from the Florida Keys to Philadelphia, I have probably logged onto 20 plus FBO wifis in addition to the hotels and friends houses.  At the suggestion of cobra, I have deleted all the "PRE's" that I could to no avail.  In the case that something has changed with my cable company that prevents me from connecting, I will take my 740 to the airport today and try to connect to our EAA hangar wifi.  That has worked for me in the past as well as my local FBO wifi. 

I was wondering if a recent software update could be the culprit.  I see a correlation between the last software update and my ability to update over wifi.

Please understand that I'm not one of those chronic complainers.  I think this GPS is the best out there, especially for my type of flying, and your factory support has always been outstanding as well as prompt.  It's just that, without the wifi functionality I had, the GPS seems more like a compromise and apparently affects me more than others. 

I'll report back as soon as I try to connect to a few more wifis.  BTW, it connects flawlessly (NMEA 4800) to both my new AV-30-C AI and DG and gives me HSI for the current leg.

The wifi connectivity happens at the device OS level, before the iFly app even launches.  iFly software updates do not affect the OS. 

Note that updating the device's OS involves flashing firmware inside the device--it's much more involved than just replacing files on the SD card, which is all that an iFly software update requires.  It's not possible to accidentally update the OS when you're trying to update iFly.
