I am having the same issue.  At first, it was just that it "bombed" attempting to load software updates.  I had to use iFly Connect to do it.  Now it won't connect to my default wifi network with which I have had no problem connecting in the past.  I tried deleting the "pre" networks that I don't use but I do use a few of the remaining ones. It seems to connect to the ADSB "in" ok but when I travel, I depend on updating from my saved locations as I don't always carry my laptop to update the SD card.  Now it's a problem?  When it wasn't before?  What changed?  I have a trip coming up and would really like to use the wifi update feature as I have in the past.  Any thoughts?

I don't have any good suggestions for you.  In my experience, if you only have one "(Pre)" network, then the 7xx devices will 100% reliably connect to that network.  If you have more than one "(Pre)" network...all bets are off.

To be honest, I'm surprised to hear you say that you used to have multiple (Pre) networks and the 740 reliably transitioned between them.  I don't doubt you, but I was never so lucky.

I can't explain why the iFly devices are as flaky with multiple wifi networks as they are...but they are.  Unfortunately, I don't know how to make them not be.

After contacting support I just can't get an answer to my basic question; why can't I connect to my (or any) wifi when I have been able to for years.  I have always been able to connect my 740 to local wifi's for updates, and now I can't and nobody seems to be able to tell me why.  It was only a few months ago when I had to get an SD card adapter for my laptop and use ifly connect because the wifi update would update the sectionals, etc. but would not update the software.  Then, all of a sudden, I couldn't even connect to the same wifi I have always used for updates.  That means that, when home, I cannot get real time nexrad, metars, TAFs and all the rest that would be available through wifi.  Nobody can explain to me what changed.  Seems to me that maybe a software update was to blame but I can't get an answer and just "it never worked" or something to that effect.

Why have the option of multiple wifi connections, with passwords, etc., if they cannot be used?  I am really getting frustrated with the lack of support...which has always been great.  Just tell me what changed!

I think Adventure Pilot would love to know the answer to that question.  The root cause of the 720 and 740 devices' wifi flakiness has been a mystery to everyone--AP and users both--since day one.  Unfortunately, the wifi support is baked into the device's core OS+driver software as it is delivered to AP, and is thus outside the scope of the iFly software that AP writes and controls.

As someone who used a 720 for years and dealt with wonky wifi the entire time, I feel your pain and share your frustration.  But unfortunately, you're not going to get an answer to your question because no one who cares (at AP or in the iFly user community) knows, and no one who might possibly know (the original hardware platform vendor) cares.  The hardware product is some 7 years old now and no longer supported (and the hardware platform vendor support to AP was not so robust even when the product was new).

For what it's worth, you question why it worked for a while and then stopped.  From my perspective, I am amazed to hear that it ever worked for you in the first place, since mine never did....

I had a 720 that I bought in 2014.  I always updated through wifi.  When the 740 came out I did the upgrade and always updated through not only "my" wifi but when I travelled, I always updated using wifi from friends houses, FBOs, hotels, my local EAA hangar, etc.
