I can kick this up to Walter & co. but we've always said to do your wifi updates overnight. Personally, I do my updates over iFly Connect on my PC. it takes about 10-15 mins max.

Our servers are in a colo facility with massive bandwidth, and our data server is pretty beefy most things are cached and streaming from RAM.

The download speed can seem slow as it includes times to unzip, CRC check the file, and deploy.  And sometimes the app needs to pause/close data connections to files in order to replace it, then re-open the new file.  If you're on Android running on an external SD card we've seen that affect performance.  Or if you have anti-virus stuff running, that can affect performance.

I would like to continue this discussion. My 740b only will achieve about 100 - 115kbps download speed. This makes a normal cycle update a painful 7 - 9 hour update. At the same time, my iphone or ipad using the iFly app takes 15-20 minutes and shows around 1500 - 2500kbs. This is all using the same wifi connection.

Using your "Connect" option doesn't help those of us that use Apple computers.

Should we accept this update speed or try to find the bottle neck. It appears to me that this speed rarely changes,,,, late at night or daytime.

If you're using a mac, here's the other option for you as long as you have a USB stick

IMO, the faa with going to updates every 56 days for all vfr charts made me look at Ifly connect.  I went and bought a second sd(16gb) card(<$10 at walmart) and now alternate between the two media cards I have.  In the past for my 740 , it would be about an hour to update using the 740.  This is again , getting it out of the box , powering it up, going to update ,  yada yada yada.   Not I just grab the sd card that is not in the 740,  plug it into my computer and update while doing email, etc..< hour to update all files   Put an email reminder when they expire and Walla , there you go.  Only issue I have see is all my flight logs are not on one card,   I can deal with this .

This seems much easier.   Just wanted to pass on my experience as updating the entire faa vfr db over the 740 would have been several hours.   Much quicker and simplerwith connect and my laptop that on the 740.

p.s,  make sure your laptop/desktop has a sd media reader, else you'll need to buy one for a usb connection.

also , now I have a backup sd card just in case it gets toasted, corrupted.
